How to Cancel Your Planet Fitness Membership
A Planet Fitness gym membership is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. However, you may want to cancel your membership if you change gyms, move, need to save money, or decide to work out at home instead of at the gym. If you want to cancel your Planet Fitness membership, you have a few options.
- Visit your local Planet Fitness location.
- Unsubscribe by email
- If possible, cancel your subscription online.

1. Visit your Home Planet fitness center.
Often the easiest way to cancel your Planet Fitness membership is to visit your local gym. Please notify our staff that you wish to cancel your subscription and we will assist you in doing so. But if you’ve moved or traveled a long way from your gym, it can be a problem.
If you are away from your home gym
If you would like to cancel your membership, please contact your home gym. Even if the gym has your address, membership number and other information, you don’t just have access to Planet Fitness. Basically, if a customer signs up for a membership in their college town but moves to another town and regularly uses a different Planet Fitness gym, the one they signed up for is their gym.
If you need to change home gyms, you can use your online account to transfer your membership to another location if:
- Monthly membership.
- I have been a home gym member for 90 days.
- There is currently no balance in your subscription account.
2. Cancel your Planet Fitness subscription by mail
Canceling a Planet Fitness membership in person can be very difficult for some customers if they are not close to home and do not meet the eligibility requirements to transfer their membership. Fortunately, there is a way to cancel your Planet Fitness membership without physically being at the location you’ve designated as your home gym. Planet Fitness will receive a cancellation letter in the mail.
If you’re wondering how to write a cancellation letter to Planet Fitness, it’s important to know that your letter should state your intent to cancel your membership and include the following:
- name
- address
- telephone number
- Member ID number
Make sure the letter contains all the necessary information and send it to your address. To cancel without being charged for the following month’s membership, you must arrive at the gym at least 7 business days prior to your billing date.
Planet Fitness prefers that members who cancel their membership send a letter to their home address by certified mail. This means that when the customer sends a letter, they receive a receipt and then electronically confirm that the letter has reached its destination. This is a more formal mail channel than sending a letter without any follow-up and guaranteeing that your cancellation will arrive. To send a letter by certified mail, you must go to the post office.
